The Architecture Centre has been commissioned to set up a dedicated Design Forum to help bring to fruition ambitious plans for the future of Weston-Super-Mare. The panel will be chaired by Nick Childs, former chair of the Bristol Urban Design Forum (BUDF), who was instrumental in setting up the BUDF. Nick is also Chair of Trustees at the Architecture Centre and a Director of Childs+Sulzmann Architects.

North Somerset Council has created a regeneration framework and vision for the future that sets out the town’s ambitions for new developments and public spaces. The new Weston-Super-Mare Design Forum provides a dedicated panel that will meet at least quarterly to review and advise on emerging strategies and development plans, working with North Somerset Council and other stakeholders to ensure that new developments are of the highest quality.

The panel comprises built environment experts from a wide range of disciplines including planning, architecture, urban design, landscape and sustainability.

The first meeting of the Forum took place on 25th April when the panel, senior offices and the Chairman of the council met to discuss the scale of Weston’s ambitions and the opportunities for shaping the future prosperity of the town.

'Weston is growing fast and will be bigger than Bath by 2020. The town has some fantastic assets and I am delighted to be asked to contribute to the discussions to help Weston take advantage of the opportunities and make sure that new buildings, places and spaces in the town are of the highest possible quality,' Nick Childs commented.

Proposed developments around the station and around the Old Magistrates Court will be coming forward for discussion in the next few months.
