The Pervasive Media Studios will be celebrating the tenth anniversary of their opening

On Saturday the 17th February, The Pervasive Media Studios will be celebrating the tenth anniversary of their opening.

It certainly doesn’t seem like 10 years since we were involved in creating what, at the time, was one of the very first such collaborative work spaces in Bristol. It proved hugely successful and was perhaps the inspiration behind so many other such spaces that followed.

It was an exciting time. The concept was innovative – bringing together a diverse range of disciplines from science, academia, the arts, media, and engineering into a shared work space. Our task was to design an environment where all felt equally comfortable to collaborate in a creative space. The Pervasive Media Studio supports and nurtures a community inventing amazing ideas and creative applications of emerging technologies.

“A treasure trove of artists and technologists making things that are playful, strange, humane and most of all, people-focused.”  Nikesh Shukla, in his Essay for Radio 3

Thanks to the success, foresight and vision of all those involved in these early developments, the concept of shared workspaces, creative hubs and incubator spaces is now a familiar one.

“With more recent examples such as our project at Engine Shed, Bristol continues to set the standard (or lead the field) for generating space for tech-based creativity and innovation,” comments Mike Cox, Director, Childs+Sulzmann Architects.
